New York City area patients who are either looking for a total smile makeover or would like to replace a series of missing or failing teeth have a unique treatment option available with All on 4 dental implants. This dental implant treatment option can replace an entire arch or entire mouth full of teeth, sometimes in as little time as a day! Receiving All-on-4 treatment requires that you have your natural teeth removed, the All on 4 titanium implants inserted, and your provisional replacement teeth placed. Because there are so many oral surgery procedures performed at once, there are specialized instructions for All-on-4 patients. Continue reading for 5 aftercare tips after receiving All-on-4 treatment.

1. Arrange for a Ride Home

To make his New York City All-on-4 patients as comfortable as possible during the involved procedures, Dr. Kissel has gone above and beyond, becoming licensed to provide oral sedation for his patients.  He also has an in-house anesthesiologist performing  IV  anesthesia sedation so his patients can be completely asleep throughout the process. Oral or IV sedation will require an escort to drive you home the day of the procedure.

2. Take Your Oral Anti-Inflammatory Medication Exactly as Prescribed

Thankfully, most All-on-4 patients report that they need minimal pain medication after their procedure. However, you will experience a lot of swelling post-op, which is why it’s important that you take your oral anti-inflammatory medication. Make sure you take every dose, even if that means waking up in the middle of the night, so you don’t skip a round of your medication.

3 . Get Plenty of Rest, and Elevate Your Head

Many of Dr. Kissel’s New York City area patients have never had surgery before. It’s important to remember that even though receiving All-on-4s is an outpatient procedure, it is an oral surgery and it does require patients to get rest, your body needs to heal. Make sure that you take time to lie down, with your head elevated to minimize swelling.

 4. Take It Easy when Chewing and Biting

While it’s true that dental implants allow patients to eat and chew anything they want, this benefit is only realized after dental implants have healed and fused with patients’ bone tissue. For the first 3 to 4 months after your surgery, while your implants are still fusing with your jawbone tissue, you shouldn’t chew or bite down too hard on food, and you should avoid crunchy foods like peanut brittle until you have healed and have your permanent replacement teeth.

 5. Call Dr. Kissel if You Experience Anything Out of the Ordinary or Are in Pain

Dr. Kissel wants you to have an easy, successful recovery period. If you experience anything unusual that deviates from your post-op instructions, or if you are in pain, you should call Dr. Kissel right away for immediate assistance.
